KillSlop is free. Running it is not.

There is no paid tier, nothing held back for one, no advertising and nothing sold, which also means there is no company behind this paying for the work. If KillSlop earns its place in your browser, you can chip in. If you would rather not, keep using it: the list gets better either way.

A filter that decides what you do not see should be one you can audit. That is why the extension and the server are GPL-3.0 and the list is CC BY-SA 4.0, and why the way to fund this is a donation rather than a price. A paywall would put the part that decides what you see behind a checkout.

Where it goes

The bills this covers.

Most of KillSlop costs nothing to run, because most of the work happens in your own browser. These are the parts that do cost something.

Cloudflare

The list and the lookups

The API, this website and the database that holds the public list run on Cloudflare Workers and D1. Every lookup, every report and every export is served from there, and that grows with the number of people using it.

TypeSafe

The writing check

The optional check that reads a post's writing runs on a model we pay for per call. It is the one part of KillSlop with a cost per use, which is part of why it ships switched off.

One-off

The domain and the store

killslop.app is renewed every year, and publishing to the Chrome Web Store took a one-time developer fee. Small, but they are real, and they came out of a pocket rather than a budget.

Costs nothing

Most of the help we need is not money.

The list is the product, and it is built out of what people report. A few seconds of marking things is worth more to it than a donation, and you can do both or neither.

In plain words

What a donation does not buy.

Worth saying out loud, because on most sites a support button is a tier with a name.

No features, and no supporter tier

Every setting is available to everyone. There is no locked switch, no trial, no seat count and no badge. The extension is not told whether you gave, and has no way to find out.

No say over the list

Money does not add an account to the list or take one off it. Entries are added on published AI labels, measured channel patterns and a maintainer's review, and each one says which. Nobody can pay their way onto or off it.

No account, and no receipt from us

Giving does not create a login here. buymemomo.com handles the payment under its own terms and we never see a card. We get a name only if their page shows us one.

No promise it keeps running forever

It buys time to keep working on it, not a guarantee. If this ever stops, the code and the whole list are already public under licences that let someone else carry on.

Thanks for reading this far.

Chipping in keeps the servers on and the list growing. Using KillSlop and marking what it missed does the same thing for free.
